2017 年 9 月，美国三大个人信用局之一的 Equifax 由于黑客攻击，泄漏了 147 million 美国用户的个人重要信息，大概一半的美国人都收到影响。Equifax 和联邦贸易委员会达成 settlement，会拿出 $425 million 进行赔偿，现在可以领取了。
如果选择现金赔偿，可以选支票，或者 pre-paid debit card，申请日期截止到 2020 年 1 月 22 日。

我们在 7 月份写这篇文章时候，就对 $125 赔偿金额有很大疑问。根据 foxbusiness 的最新消息，这个金额果然是非常不靠谱的。 如果大家都领取赔偿，每个人只能拿到 21 cents 赔偿，是的你没看错，只有 21 cents。 原因是 Equifax 同意为 settlement 赔偿 $575 million 到 $700 million，但是只有一小部分 31 million 的钱用来这部分的赔偿。 总共有 147 million 用户受影响，算算就是每人几十 cents 了。 “Because the total amount available for the alternative compensations is $31 million, each person who takes the money option is likely to get a very small amount.” “If everyone affected by the breach filed a claim for the money, each would get just 21 cents.” 之前介绍过，赔偿有两种选择：1）10 年免费信用监测 2）或现金赔偿 目前是 3.3 million 用户已经选择了信用检测，超过 4.5 million 用户选择现金赔偿，提交的截止日期是 2020 年 1 月 22 日，也就是说还会有更多的人申请。 即使按照 4.5 million 已经申请现金赔偿的用户数量算，每人获得的最高金额也不到 7 刀。 当时说每人赔偿最高 $125... 真是让人呵呵呵...如何判断自己的信息是否被泄露？

如果受影响，可以做什么？
有两种选择，10 年免费信用监测，或者最高 $125 cash payment 赔偿。 10 年免费信用监测包括- 至少 4 年 Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion 三家信用局的监测，和 $1,000,000 identity theft insurance
- 额外最多 6 年 Equifax credit report 免费监测
额外的现金赔偿
如果因为信息泄漏有额外的损失，会赔偿最高 $20,000，包括- Losses from unauthorized charges to your accounts
- The cost of freezing or unfreezing your credit report
- The cost of credit monitoring
- Fees you paid to professionals like an accountant or attorney
- Other expenses like notary fees, document shipping fees and postage, mileage, and phone charges
- If you submit a claim for 10 hours or less, you must describe the actions you took and the time you spent doing those things
- If you claim more than 10 hours, you must describe the actions you took AND provide documents that show identity theft, fraud, or other misuse of your information
