Same $0 fee, three different jobs
Autograph and VentureOne charge no foreign transaction fee and can actually travel abroad. Citi Strata has travel-oriented categories, but its official pricing table lists a 3% foreign purchase transaction fee, making it better for domestic category spend.
Do not compare multipliers without comparing currencies. Wells Fargo Rewards, Capital One miles and Citi ThankYou Points have different redemption paths and transfer partners. A 3x label is not automatically a 3% return.

Wells Fargo Autograph: the broadest category card
The current official terms show 20,000 points after $1,000 in eligible purchases within three months. The card has no annual fee or foreign transaction fee.
It earns 3x on restaurants, travel, gas, transit, popular streaming and eligible phone plans, with 1x elsewhere. Eligible Wells Fargo points cards can also access participating transfer partners; always verify the current list and an award before transferring.
- Best for: people with meaningful travel, dining, gas and commuting spend.
- Tradeoff: ordinary purchases earn only 1x.
- Eligibility: Wells Fargo says people who have or opened Autograph within the past 48 months may not qualify for introductory offers.
Capital One VentureOne: modest earning, simple travel redemptions
VentureOne currently offers 20,000 miles after $500 in purchases within three months and charges no annual fee. Eligible purchases earn 1.25 miles per dollar, while hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel earn 5x.
Miles can book through Capital One Travel, cover an eligible travel purchase after it posts, or move to participating partners. Capital One says a travel-purchase credit must be requested within 90 days of posting.
- Best for: occasional travelers who want one uncategorized currency.
- Tradeoff: 1.25x can lose to a no-fee 1.5% or 2% cash-back card; compare portal prices and hotel-status treatment.
- Eligibility: the page excludes applicants who received a VentureOne, Venture or Venture X new-card bonus in the past 48 months.
Citi Strata: rewarding at home, expensive abroad
The no-fee Citi Strata earns 5x on hotels, rental cars and attractions through Citi Travel; 3x at supermarkets, on select transit, gas and EV charging, plus one eligible self-select category; 2x at restaurants; and 1x elsewhere. The default self-select category is streaming and can be changed once per calendar quarter.
Its 3% foreign purchase fee is the decisive drawback. Spending $2,000 abroad would cost about $60 before considering rewards. Citi's public bonus fields can vary by session or channel, so save and rely on the application page you actually submit.
A simple annual-spend test
This comparison does not assign a speculative value to any currency. If transferring, find bookable travel first and include taxes, cancellation terms and cash alternatives.
| Spending pattern | Likely fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| $8k dining/travel/transit + $8k other | Autograph | A large share earns 3x |
| $16k scattered spend with occasional travel credits | VentureOne or a 2% card | VentureOne is simple, but compare cash-back opportunity cost |
| $8k U.S. groceries/gas/transit + $4k dining | Citi Strata | Several domestic categories earn 3x or 2x |
| $3k foreign purchases | Autograph or VentureOne | Citi Strata would charge about $90 |

- Check the foreign transaction fee before an international trip.
- Compare travel-portal pricing, hotel points, elite credit and cancellation rules with direct booking.
- Treat transfers as irreversible: confirm award space first.

Autograph and VentureOne have participating transfer partners. Citi options and ratios can depend on the Citi products held and current terms; verify inside the account.
Is Citi Strata a travel card?
