Blue Cash Everyday is an easy no-annual-fee card to keep. It works best for people with steady spending at traditional U.S. supermarkets, U.S. online retailers and U.S. gas stations who do not want to pay an annual fee for everyday cash back.
The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express earns 3% cash back in three useful categories: U.S. supermarkets, U.S. online retail purchases and U.S. gas stations. Each category has its own $6,000 calendar-year cap, then earns 1%. Other eligible purchases earn 1%.
As of August 2026, Amex advertises a welcome offer as high as $200 cash back after $2,000 in purchases in the first six months. Your offer and eligibility may differ, so rely on the final terms displayed in your application.
This is currently an issuer link. The offer, APR and eligibility shown when you apply control.
Features
$0, with no spending hurdle to offset a carrying cost.
As high as $200 after $2,000 in six months; your offer may differ.
0% on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months, then a variable APR under your application terms.
2.7%, making it a poor choice abroad.
The three 3% categories have separate caps; they do not share one $6,000 limit. Rewards depend on how a merchant submits the transaction.
What counts as U.S. online retail?
The category is useful for physical goods bought through U.S. retailer websites or apps—such as clothing, electronics, home goods and department-store purchases—when Amex identifies the merchant as eligible U.S. online retail.
Dining, travel, entertainment tickets, insurance, health care, education, utilities and other services are generally outside the category. A third-party wallet or marketplace can also change the transaction data Amex receives.
Up to $84 in Disney Streaming Credits
After enrollment, use the card for an eligible subscription at DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com or Stream.ESPN.com in the U.S. to receive up to $7 in statement credits each month, or $84 annually. Amex currently states that there is no minimum purchase requirement.
Value the benefit near face value only if it replaces a subscription you would pay for anyway. Eligible subscriptions auto-renew, and enrollment is required.
Before you apply
- Save the exact welcome offer shown during your application; do not assume you will receive the maximum.
- Read the eligibility notice. Your history with Blue Cash family cards or prior welcome offers may affect eligibility.
- Costco, Walmart and Target generally do not count as U.S. supermarkets, so do not budget around 3% if they are your main grocery stores.
- Remember that supermarkets, online retail and gas each have a separate $6,000 calendar-year cap, then earn 1%.
- Amex may let you check for approval without affecting your score; accepting the card may affect your credit. Read the application screen before continuing.
- Do not manufacture spending for the offer. The variable APR after the intro period is high.
Drawbacks
- Every 3% category is capped: each earns 3% on only the first $6,000 per calendar year, then 1%.
- Merchant definitions matter: superstores, warehouse clubs and many online services are excluded.
- The 2.7% foreign transaction fee is avoidable: use a no-foreign-transaction-fee card abroad.
- Cash back is simple, not transferable: there are no airline or hotel transfer partners.

Frequently asked questions
Does Blue Cash Everyday have an annual fee?
No. Amex currently lists a $0 annual fee, making it easy to keep long term.
Does Costco, Walmart or Target earn 3% as a U.S. supermarket?
Generally, no. Warehouse clubs and superstores normally fall outside Amex's U.S. supermarket category. Rewards ultimately depend on the merchant category submitted to Amex.
What counts for 3% U.S. online retail purchases?
Generally, physical goods purchased from U.S. retail websites or apps. Dining, travel, tickets and many services are normally excluded, and merchant coding controls the result.
Does the card charge a foreign transaction fee?
Yes. Amex currently lists a 2.7% foreign transaction fee, so this is not a strong card for purchases abroad.
How do I redeem the cash back?
Cash back is earned as Reward Dollars and can currently be redeemed for statement credits or at eligible Amazon.com checkout, subject to Amex's terms.
Bottom line
Blue Cash Everyday's strength is the combination of no annual fee and 3% back across three common categories: traditional U.S. supermarkets, U.S. online retail and U.S. gas stations. It is a practical long-term cash-back card for people who prefer simple rewards.
If most groceries come from Costco, Walmart or Target, or if you frequently use a card abroad, the fit is weaker. Check your actual merchants and the welcome offer shown to you before applying.
